LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- Top-ranked Southern California tries to win a school-record 21st straight home game and post a 20th consecutive victory overall when it hosts rival Notre Dame on Saturday.

The Trojans (10-0), who are aiming for their best start since the 1972 squad went 12-0 and won the national title, have won 30 of their last 31 games. Their 19-game home winning streak equals the school mark set from 1919-23 and matched from 1927-29.

USC has not played since a 49-9 rout of Arizona on November 13. The Trojans trailed after one quarter, 3-0, before pulling away.

Led by Matt Leinart, who is 22-1 as a starter, USC's offense is averaging 37 points and more than 430 yards per game, while the Trojans' defense is ranked in the top six in every main statistical category.

The Irish (6-4), who are concluding their regular season, also have not played since November 13, when they lost to Pittsburgh at home, 41-38, on a last-second field goal.

Notre Dame has been wildly inconsistent this season, beating national powers Michigan and Tennessee but losing to the likes of the Panthers and Brigham Young.

The Irish lead the all-time series, 42-28-5, but have lost the last two games by 31 points apiece. The winner earns the Shillelagh trophy.

USC has not won three in a row against Notre Dame since 1996-98.
