AMES, Iowa (Ticker) -- Freshman Todd Blythe caught three touchdown passes as Iowa State posted a wild 48-41 victory over Northern Illinois.
Blythe's last touchdown, a four-yard reception with 5:13 remaining in the contest, snapped a 34-34 tie. He also had TD catches of 39 and 47 yards and finished with four receptions for 104 yards.
Bret Meyer passed for two touchdowns and Austin Flynn also threw for a score for the Cyclones, who rallied from a 28-20 halftime deficit.
Stevie Hicks added 75 yards rushing for Iowa State.
Northern Illinois received a big day from Phil Horvath, who went 20-of-33 for 285 yards and four touchdowns. Each of his TD passes went to a different receiver.
A.J. Harris added 94 yards rushing and a touchdown for the Huskies (1-2), who rolled up 402 total yards.
