OXFORD, Mississippi (Ticker) -- Ethan Flatt hit Lorenzo Townsend with a pair of touchdown passes as Mississippi held on for a 28-21 homecoming victory over Arkansas State.
Making his third start of the season, Flatt completed 18-of-24 passes for 179 yards and found Townsend from 11 yards out to give the Rebels (2-3) a 13-6 edge early in the second quarter.
Quarterback Nick Noce, who ran in a 26-yard score later in the half to give Arkansas State (1-4) a one-point lead at intermission, was intercepted by defensive end Jayme Mitchell on the Indians' first possession of the second half.
Flatt and Townsend hooked up one play later on a nine-yard touchdown to make it 20-14.
Following an Arkansas State fumble later in the third, Brandon Jacobs ran for a three-yard touchdown to start the fourth. The two-point conversion opened a 28-14 cushion.
Vashon Pearson topped the 100-yard mark for the third straight game with 135 yards on 24 carries as the Rebels improved to 20-1-2 in the series. Ole Miss last fell to the Indians in 1915.
Noce threw for 230 yards and one touchdown and Antonio Warren had 135 yards rushing and Arkansas State's first score early in the second.
