WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Mike Imoh's late touchdown extended Wake Forest's string of tough luck.
Imoh scored from seven yards out with just 2:10 to play as Virginia Tech posted a 17-10 victory over Wake Forest in an Atlantic Coast Conference matchup.
Wake Forest (3-3, 0-3 ACC) has lost two conference games in overtime and all three league defeats have been by a touchdown or less.
Imoh ran for 100 yards on 29 carries for Virginia Tech (4-2, 2-1), which narrowly avoided a letdown loss in its first ACC road game after handing West Virginia its first defeat last week.
Virginia Tech took an early 7-0 lead when Bryan Randall hit tight end Jeff King with a five-yard TD pass just over five minutes into the game. Brandon Pace extended the lead to 10-0 midway through the second quarter with a 26-yard field goal.
Chris Barclay scored on a one-yard run with 25 seconds to play in the first half to pull Wake Forest within 10-7.
Defense ruled the second half and neither team scored in the third quarter. Ryan Plackemeier knotted things at 10-10 with a 20-yard field goal with 6:15 to play.
Randall finished 12-of-18 for 119 yards for Virginia Tech while Barclay picked up 84 yards on 19 carries for the Demon Deacons.
