PASADENA, California (Ticker) -- Jerome Harrison set the tone early and delivered a huge performance.
Harrison rushed for a career-high 247 yards and scored the first time he touched the ball as Washington State held off UCLA, 31-29, in a Pac-10 Conference matchup.
UCLA (5-4, 3-3 Pac-10) trailed, 31-16, in the fourth quarter before Tab Perry caught a 47-yard TD pass from Drew Olson and the quarterback hooked up with Manuel White for a four-yard score with 42 seconds to play.
The Bruins went for two to tie but Olson's pass fell incomplete and the Cougars held on to snap a four-game losing streak.
Olson completed 18-of-38 passes for 201 yards and was intercepted once.
After the Bruins fumbled the opening kickoff, Harrison scored on a 25-yard run to give Washington State (4-5, 2-4) a 7-0 lead just 18 seconds into the game.
Harrison, who set a new school record with 42 carries, produced a 45-yard TD run with 34 seconds left in the first quarter and added a 10-yard score 14 seconds into the fourth that gave the Cougars a 31-16 lead.
