OXFORD, Mississippi (Ticker) -- Backup quarterback Robert Lane rushed for 97 yards, threw for 108 and accounted for two touchdowns to help Mississippi defeat Mississippi State, 20-3, in the "Egg Bowl."
Lane, who entered the game after starter Ethan Flatt threw an interception on the first play from scrimmage, gave Ole Miss (4-7, 3-5 SEC West) an early 7-0 lead with a four-yard TD to Lawrence Lilly.
The Rebels scored their only other touchdown at the start of the fourth quarter when Lane crossed the goal line from two yards out to cap a 16-play, 98-yard drive and open a 17-3 lead.
Jonathan Nichols kicked two field goals as Mississippi broke a four-game losing streak and took a 50-20-5 lead in the "Egg Bowl" rivalry.
The Bulldogs (3-8, 2-6 West) gained only 70 yards rushing, while quarterback Omarr Conner was 8-of-28 for 150 yards with four sacks.
Sylvester Croom ended first season at Mississippi State with three consecutive losses, while the Bulldogs lost their 12th straight road contest and their 17th consecutive SEC road game.
