WEST POINT, N.Y. (AP) -Despite getting five turnovers from Army, Akron struggled to put up a lot of points. That was just fine by quarterback Chris Jacquemain .

He threw for 204 yards and a touchdown and Igor Iveljic kicked three field goals to lead Akron to a 22-3 victory over Army on Saturday.

''Army hung around, and I am kind of glad they did because we learned a lot about our team,'' Jacquemain said. ''It was a great team victory. Our defense held them in check.''

Jacquemain was 14-for-25 passing with no interceptions and Andre Jones caught five passes for 100 yards and one touchdown. Dennis Kennedy ran 73 yards on 19 carries and a TD for the Zips (2-2).

Army is 0-3 for the first time since 2005 and extended its losing streak to nine games. The Black Knights were driving when Collin Mooney fumbled and the Zips went 79 yards in three plays for an 9-0 lead.

Kennedy's 1-yard touchdown midway through the fourth quarter gave Akron a 19-3 lead and came five plays after Bryan Williams returned a fumble by third-string quarterback Carlo Sandiego 16 yards to the Army 24. It was one of five turnovers by the Black Knights , and the Zips scored after three of them.

''I want to make it clear that we're not frustrated,'' Black Knights strong safety Lowell Garthwaite said. ''Every time the defense comes out there, we're very excited. We're all a unit. I'm not like, 'Oh my gosh, another fumble.' I'm like, it's our time to shine. It's our time. We're going to get the ball back for the offense, and we're going to march down there and we're going to score.''

Army rotated three quarterbacks - Chip Bowden to run, Carson Williams on passing downs, and Sandiego when Bowden was injured.

Bowden led Army with 65 yards rushing on 21 carries before leaving the game limping with an apparent right ankle injury late in the third quarter.

''These kids will work hard and they were excited,'' Brock said. ''That's one of the things that's so disheartening for me is how hard these kids work and how excited they are going into the game and then not to have some success, not to taste that success.''

Williams, who went 7-for-7 in Army's last game before leaving in the second quarter with an injury to his left (non-throwing) hand, was replaced by Bowden early in the second quarter. Bowden effectively ran the option before Williams re-entered in the final 1:07 of the first half to go 2-for-4 for 18 yards and set up Andrew Rinehart 's 36-yard field goal as time expired.

Williams went 6-for-12 passing for 52 yards and an interception.

Along with field goals of 25, 36 and 37 yards, Iveljic missed from 25 yards in the first quarter when he hit the right upright. It was the first time Akron failed to score after reaching the red zone this season.

''I feel like the effort was strong,'' Army linebacker Frank Scappaticci said. ''We stayed together in a lot of tough spots with sudden-change turnovers. I feel like we never really got down on ourselves.''
