Tony Pike
connected with Mardy Gilyard on two touchdown passes and
Jake Rogers
made a go-ahead field goal with 7:45 left in Cincinnati's 17-15 win Saturday over Akron.
The Bearcats (3-1) drove 42 yards in nine plays to set up Rogers' 48-yard field goal, and
Brad Jones
intercepted
Chris Jacquemain
's pass at Akron's 44 with 1:31 remaining to seal the win.
Late in the third, a Gilyard fumble gave Akron (2-3) the ball at the Cincinnati 24, and several plays later,
Dennis Kennedy
plunged in from the one. But Jacquemain's attempted run for a 2-point conversion failed, giving the Zips a 15-14 advantage
early in the fourth.
Pike was 23 of 34 for 320 yards passing, and Gilyard caught seven for 146 yards for Cincinnati.
Akron's Jacquemain connected on 26 of 40 passes for 254 yards, and
Deryn Bowser
caught 10 for 72 yards.
