MONROE, La. (AP) - Rusty Smith threw a 22-yard touchdown to Cortez Gent with 22 seconds left in the game to lift Florida Atlantic to a 29-28 win over Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday night.

The Warhawks (2-6, 1-3 Sun Belt Conference) took a 28-20 lead with 11:56 remaining in the fourth quarter when Kinsmon Lancaster connected with Zeek Zacharie on an 8-yard touchdown.

But the Owls (3-5, 1-2) answered with a 22-yard field goal by Warley Leroy to cut the margin to 28-23 with 5:41 left in the fourth. Then Florida Atlantic used an eight-play, 72-yard drive, capped by Smith's game-winning touchdown pass to Gent to give them the victory.

Smith, who completed 28 of 39 passes for 267 yards, finished with two touchdowns and two interceptions for the Warhawks. Charles Pierre ran for 80 yards on 17 carries, and Willie Rose added 61 yards on 10 attempts.

Lancaster was 22 of 27 for 216 yards, three touchdowns and an interception for Louisiana-Monroe. Lancaster also ran for 92 yards on 13 carries.
