. Alexander passed for a total of 186 yards on 13 of 27 attempts.
Alexander also scored on a nine-yard run on a broken play with 7:00 remaining in the game to bring the score to 20-14.
But a 61-yard run by Borel gave Utah State the ball inside the 10-yard line with 5:10 to play.
Caldwell then kicked a 21-yard field goal to give Utah State a 23-14 lead.
Hawaii was unable to gain a critical fourth down in the closing minutes of the game. A fumble at the end of a 90-yard kickoff
return also closed the door on the Warriors.
