Colt Brennan has set plenty of team records - including two against Utah State - to help thrust Hawaii into the national spotlight. There's one record, however, he certainly did not intend to attain.

Brennan, looking to bounce back from the worst performance of his career, leads the 16th-ranked Warriors as they host the winless Aggies in a WAC matchup Saturday.

Hawaii (5-0, 2-0) has set a team record with nine straight WAC wins dating back to last season, and has matched its highest ranking in the AP poll. The Warriors also were ranked 16th in 1981.

Much of their success is due to Brennan, the most prolific passer in team history.

In a 63-10 win over Utah State on Nov. 4, Brennan had six touchdown passes to give him a single-season team record of 39, and he went on to finish the year with a Division I-A record 58.

In that game, Brennan also set a team record for the most consecutive pass attempts without an interception. Before being intercepted by Aggies safety Terrance Washington in the third quarter, Brennan had thrown 182 times without an interception.

Last Saturday, though, the Heisman Trophy candidate set another team record by throwing five interceptions in the Warriors' 48-20 win over Idaho. Brennan, who missed Hawaii's previous contest due to a sprained right ankle, had only one of his 133 passes picked off through his first three games of the season.

"It keeps Colt very humble and let's him understand that you have to execute and do what you have to do," Warriors receiver Davone Bess said.

Brennan's ankle seemed fine, but his passes were slightly off target. He finished 30-of-49 for 369 yards with three touchdowns and added a 1-yard TD run in the third quarter, but his 19 incompletions were his most since having 20 against Wisconsin in 2005.

Hawaii has won without Brennan this season, beating Charleston Southern 66-10 on Sept. 23, and has now found a way to earn an easy win despite a poor game from its star. The Warriors defense stepped up against Idaho, with Adam Leonard and Myron Newberry both returning interceptions for touchdowns.

"What's awesome is everyone else just showed how good our team really is," Brennan said.

Newberry was named the WAC's defensive player of the week. He is tied with Leonard and Gerard Lewis for the team lead with two interceptions.

Hawaii has held its last three opponents to an average of 14.7 points, and will now face a Utah State team that has yet to top 20 points this season.

The Aggies (0-5, 0-1) haven't won in nearly a year, losing 11 straight since a 13-12 victory over Fresno State last Oct. 7.

Utah State has had a problem keeping leads. The Aggies led in the fourth quarter in three of their first four games, with the exception being a 54-3 loss at then-No. 3 Oklahoma on Sept. 15.

Last Saturday, they took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter only to lose 34-18 to Utah. It was the first time Utah State scored first in a game since Oct. 14, when it lost 21-14 to San Jose State.

One of the few bright spots for the Aggies last week was James Brindley 's 64-yard interception return to the 1-yard line to set up Leon Jackson 's touchdown run that put them up 7-0. They didn't score again until the fourth quarter.

Utah State's ground game has been sputtering, averaging 3.0 yards per carry, so freshman Derrvin Speight got his first career start last Saturday but he was held to 67 yards on 22 carries.

Kevin Robinson is the Aggies' top threat on offense and special teams. He leads the team with 26 receptions for 263 yards, is averaging 22.2 yards per punt return and had an 82-yard kick return for a touchdown.

Utah State likely needs big plays on special teams if it hopes to have any chance of upsetting Hawaii. The Aggies are 1-42 all-time against ranked teams.

"It's going to be fun," Robinson said. "Hopefully we can put up a lot of points, just like they do. If not, it probably won't be in our favor. Football is a weird game so we're just going of have to wait and see what happens."

Hawaii has won its last two games against Utah State, but has lost four of the teams' seven matchups all-time.
