GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) -
Chris Johnson
ran for two touchdowns and caught a scoring pass as East Carolina beat Tulane 35-12 in a Conference USA game Saturday.
Tulane's
Matt Forte
ran for 120 yards on 25 carries to finish the season with 2,127 yards. His season total is the seventh-best in major college
football history.
Kevin Smith
from Central Florida went over 2,000 yards rushing Saturday and took the national lead from Forte with 2,164.
East Carolina (7-5, 6-2 Conference USA), which has won six of the last seven against Tulane, has never lost at home in the
series. The Pirates kept alive their slim hopes for a berth in the conference championship game, but those hopes were dashed
when Central Florida defeated UTEP.
Johnson, who scored on runs of five and seven yards, finished with 155 yards on 27 carries. He also caught four passes for
85 yards, including a 33-yard touchdown pass.
Kass was 12 of 18 for 177 yards and had touchdown passes to Johnson,
Dominique Lindsay
and
Jamar Bryant
.
Kicker
Ben Hartman
set an East Carolina school record by running his streak of successful point-after-touchdown kicks to 54.
Tulane (4-8, 3-5 Conference USA) could muster only a pair of first-quarter field goals by
Ross Thevenot
and a late rushing touchdown by Forte.
