MACOMB, Ill. (AP) -
Brandon Summers
threw two touchdown passes to lead Youngstown State past Western Illinois 31-28 during their season finale Saturday afternoon.
Summers completed 12-for-19 for 208 yards for his two scores, including a 38-yard strike to
Donald Jones
late in the third.
Things weren't all bad for Western Illinois as senior
Herb Donaldson
became the all-time leading rusher in the Missouri Valley conference with a 235-yard performance that had him running the
ball 40 times. He also set a conference record with 23 games of 100 yards or more.
But the Leathernecks (6-5, 4-4 Missouri Valley) had three costly turnovers, while the Penguins (4-8, 3-5 Missouri Valley)
had none.
Youngstown's
Ferlando Williams
ran for 84 yards on 26 attempts.
The Leathernecks found themselves playing catch-up all afternoon after not answering the Penguin's touchdown in the first
quarter.
Dre Gibbs
had two touchdowns for the Leathernecks, including two runs that tied the game - in the second and the third.
