BOWLING GREEN, Ky.(AP) Paul McCall threw two touchdown passes and Florida International scored 20 unanswered second-half points to beat Western Kentucky 37-20 Saturday night for its first win of the season.
McCall was 6-for-6 for 121 yards and a touchdown in the first quarter for the Golden Panthers (1-4, 1-1 Sun Belt Conference) and finished 14-for-22 for 280 yards.
The loss extends the Hilltoppers' losing streak to 12 games dating to last season. The streak is the longest active streak in the Football Bowl Subdivision.
In the second quarter, the Hilltoppers scored on a 16-yard run by running back Bobby Rainey . FIU added another score before halftime, thanks to an 8-yard run by Daunte Owens .
FIU led 17-7 at halftime before the Hilltoppers (0-5, 0-1) scored a touchdown on quarterback Kawaun Jakes ' 8-yard run to begin the third quarter.
McCall hit Jason Frierson for a 40-yard touchdown on FIU's ensuing drive to begin the streak of 20 straight points.
Dustin Rivest tacked on two field goals to extend the Golden Panthers ' lead.
Greg Ellingson added five catches for 132 yards and a touchdown for the Golden Panthers .
Jakes went 16-for-26 with an interception and two rushing touchdowns.
Rainey's 103 yards rushing was the Hilltoppers' first 100-yard performance since David Wolke went for 178 yards and Tyrell Hayden ran for 117 yards against North Texas on Nov. 1, 2008.
Owens led the Golden Panthers with 86 yards on 17 carries and two touchdowns with Darriet Perry balancing the FIU's rushing attack with 85 yards on 21 carries.
