Tradition & Rivalries
What are your favorite football traditions at your school?
Florida State: "Two things: Flaming spear at midfield. You haven't seen anything until you see how crazy the crowd and the team get when Chief Osceola plants the spear. And there's nothing quite like seeing 86,000 people doing the war chant at night during a big defensive stand." Virginia Tech: "The P.A. system playing Enter Sandman as the team enters the field. And by "Enter Sandman," I mean the sound of 66,233 fans screaming their heads off and jumping up and down like kangaroos the second we hear Enter Sandman over the old-school puny sound system, so that you can't really hear Enter Sandman itself at all."" Georgia Tech: ""Paging George P. Burdell, paging George P. Burdell." It's a great Tech tradition. The announcer at every sports game always asks for "George P. Burdell" at some point during the game. Burdell is a fictional person created by a Tech programmer many years ago who enrolled him in every single class offered one year." Duke: "The players touch a rock at the top of the tunnel coming from the locker room. The stone is the same as the stone used on the majority of buildings on campus, and it has the Duke "D" cut out in the center. Then they run down out of the smoke onto the field." Clemson: "The tailgating scene is epic and, of course, the Tigers running down the hill. The stadium atmosphere just before kickoff, especially for a night game, is tough to beat." What is your biggest conference rival?
