ATLANTA (CNNSI.com) -- Recent surgery to remove his appendix isn't going to keep Super Bowl MVP Kurt Warner from returning to his former Arena Football field.

Warner's Iowa Barnstormers jersey, number 13, will be retired as planned during halftime of the game against Tampa Bay on May 25.

Warner's agent, Rob Lefko, confirmed that Warner and his family will attend the game, the Barnstormers have announced.

The St. Louis Rams' quarterback was released from Missouri Baptist Hospital on Wednesday, one day after the surgery.

In three seasons with the Barnstormers, Warner led the team to three postseason appearances. He then went on to a season in NFL Europe before being named the Rams' third-string quarterback in 1998.

Warner's Iowa ties run deep. He was born in Burlington, went to high school in Cedar Rapids and played for Northern Iowa.

In his three seasons with the Barnstormers, Warner led the team to three consecutive playoff appearances and twice led the team to the ArenaBowl. He was named first-team All-Arena in 1996 and again in '97.

As an outstanding role model on and off the field, Warner helped establish the Barnstormers/YMCA Youth Sports Alliance that works with youth throughout Des Moines. The year-round presence of Kurt and carried on by other Barnstormers players has had a positive impact in the community.

After leaving the Barnstormers, Kurt's career in the NFL with the St. Louis Rams has been well documented from his role of backup quarterback to the NFL's Most Valuable Player in 1999 and Super Bowl XXXIV Most Valuable Player.

The game will be nationally televised by TNN with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m. and the Hall of Fame inductees will also be honored at halftime and prior to the game.
