PHOENIX (Ticker) -- Sherdrick Bonner completed 16-of-28 passes for 259 yards and five touchdowns as the Arizona Rattlers rebounded from their first loss of the season with a 55-28 pounding of the expansion Los Angeles Avengers.

Arizona, coming off last week's 66-46 setback to Nashville, is 4-1 for the second time in three seasons and the sixth time in team history. The Rattlers improved to 17-5 all-time in Western Division contests.

Bonner threw a 36-yard touchdown pass to Randy Gatewood with 70 seconds left in the first half as the Rattlers opened a 28-14 lead. Arizona increased its advantage to 35-14 midway through the third quarter when Bonner found Maurice Bryant for a one-yard score.

Gatewood caught five passes for 88 yards and three touchdowns, while Bryant had five receptions for 64 and two scores. Bob McMillen added a pair of TD runs in the second quarter for the Rattlers, who visit the ArenaBowl champion Albany Firebirds on May 20.

Todd Marinovich fired a 29-yard touchdown pass to Chris Jackson late in the first half to get the Avengers (0-5) within 21-14, but that was as close as they got. Marinovich was 20-of-43 for 253 yards and four touchdowns.

Jackson had 10 receptions for 126 yards and three TDs for Los Angeles, which continues the search for its first win against the Houston ThunderBears on May 19.
