STAMFORD, Conn. (AP) -- The World Wrestling Federation said Wednesday it remains committed to its XFL football league despite declining television ratings and a report to the contrary.

The New York Post reported Wednesday that the Stamford-based WWF, which owns the league with NBC, might back out of the league after the first season.

"I think we have to evaluate the viability of the product in the marketplace," Linda McMahon, CEO of WWF, said at a media investment conference in Florida Monday, according to the Post.

WWF would not comment directly on the article, but issued a statement from McMahon.

"While World Wrestling Federation Entertainment continues to evaluate the XFL on a weekly basis, we stand committed to our long-term goal of making the XFL a viable brand of alternative football," McMahon said.
