Week 15: Top Performers Falcons' Chandler sets personal single-game passing markPosted: Sunday December 23, 2001 7:50 PM
By B. Duane Cross, CNNSI.com Proving there's still some fight remaining in a left-for-dead Atlanta Falcons team, 14-year veteran QB Chris Chandler threw for a career-high -- and franchise-best -- 431 yards Sunday in a 33-30 victory against the Buffalo Bills. And he did it while dealing with flu-like symptoms. "At the coin toss, Chandler looked a little pale," Bills DE Phil Hansen said. "He said, 'Hey, man, I'm sick, take it easy on me.' I laughed, then went back and told the whole defense to get after Chandler, he's sick. ... Then he turns around and sets a record for yards." Chandler's previous best was a 383-yard effort Sept. 20, 1992, at Dallas, when he played for the Phoenix Cardinals. He was treated at halftime and nearly missed the start of the third quarter. "When I was laying there getting those IVs, I just felt totally wiped," Chandler said. "I didn't know if I was going to be able to go." Unfortunately for the Bills, he was able. Chandler's 431 passing yards was the second-highest total of the NFL season, behind Detroit's Charlie Batch (436 in Week 10). Indianapolis' Peyton Manning had the only other 400-yard game (421 in Week 2). Here are this week's Top Performers:
