Top Performers: Week 16 Bengals QB Kitna passes for 411 yards against SteelersPosted: Sunday December 30, 2001 9:18 PM
By B. Duane Cross, CNNSI.com Hey, Bengals fans, if you left before the final gun Sunday, you missed a helluva finish! Cincinnati QB Jon Kitna threw two touchdown passes in the final 2:46 of the fourth quarter, when most of the Bengals' fans had fled the stadium. He threw 68 passes -- tied for third-most in NFL history -- and completed 35 for a career-high 411 yards. However, we can't blame you if you did leave. Kitna's performance through the first 57:14 left a lot to be desired. And he was only 2-of-6 in the final two minutes. But his final pass of regulation was a game-tying, 18-yard touchdown pass to Danny Farmer. In overtime, Kitna completed 4 of 6 passes for 42 yards, setting the stage for Neil Rackers' game-winning 31-yard field goal. Said Kitna: "I hope this proves -- if not to people outside of our locker room, then at least to people in our locker room -- that when we do what we're supposed to do, we're pretty darn good." The record for passing attempts in an NFL game is 70 by New England's Drew Bledsoe against Minnesota on Nov. 13, 1994. New York's Vinny Testaverde threw 69 passes against Baltimore on Dec. 24, 2000. Houston's George Blanda also attempted 68 passes in a game, Nov. 1, 1964, against Buffalo. Here are this week's Top Performers:
