Mock Draft Reactions Posted: Wednesday March 13, 2002 4:08 PMOK, you've seen who we think the 32-pick first round of the 2002 NFL Draft could be. Now, read what users think:
There seems to be alot of RBs in the first round, but I don't see Oregon State's Ken Simenton. Do you not feel he is first-round quality? He easily broke the OSU all-time record for rushing yards and is second all-time in rushing for the Pac-10, plus was at the top for all-time in points scored for Pac-10.
This is the second straight year that a significant number of people have predicted the Pats would take a WR in the first round. Hopefully the signing of Donald Hayes will put an end to this silliness. The champs don't operate that way. Bill Belichick will go big and up the middle. Look for a middle linebacker.
The Bears' biggest need is a pass rush. Quaterback is another need, but a lack of a pressure on Donovan McNabb cost them a playoff game. Alex Brown from Flordia is a perfect fit for the Bears. He may not be the best in the draft, but he fits the mold. At the very least, you can always expect a U of F football player to be very athletic. That is what makes the Bears good on defense.
With the signing of La'Roi Glover, look for Dallas to try and undercut Detroit in making a deal with Oakland to move down, as the No. 6 pick will come a little cheaper than No. 3, and either pick will get Oakland the DT of its choice (probably John Henderson). Whichever team cannot move down will take CB Quentin Jammer.
There's absolutely no way the Skins will draft a TE in the first round. They're preparing to let Stephen Alexander, their Pro Bowl TE, sign with the Texans, because they are satisfied with the development of Zeron Flemister, and Steve Spurrier's offense doesn't feature the TE. If Jabar Gaffney is still available at No. 18, then the Skins will be very tempted to take him. However, their most pressing need is at DT, where starter Kenard Lang defected to the Browns.
I think all of you experts are too hyped up about TEs Daniel Graham and Jeremy Shockey. They are good players, but they are not as good as Jerramy Stevens from the University of Washington. He's is the best tight end out there, right behind Tony Gonzales. If he was healthy all of last year he would be a top-10 pick. He'll be a Pro Bowler by his second season in the NFL.
Could the Seattle Seahawks use the 20th pick in the 2002 NFL Draft on a head coach?
I feel all of y'all have Wendell Bryant and John Henderson a bit too high on your boards. Albert Haynesworth and Ryan Sims are by far the most athletic and imposing. I'm a big Gator fan, but I cannot see Mike Pearson going until the middle of the second round. He weighs 292 pounds, and at 6-foot-7, he needs to put on 15 pounds to be successful.
The Buffalo Bills are in desperate need for a quarterback of the future. Joey Harrington brings that to the table, and I think that it is imperitive for the Bills to take him if he is available with the fourth overall selection.
Nobody had DeShaun Foster going in the first round. Has he really fallen that far? Surely, with the lack of quality running bacvks out there, somebody will draft him in the first round.
Apparently, the Heisman trophy doesn't mean a thing. I know it's the combine that excites the scouts, but it's the game that brings out the talent. David Carr this, and David Carr that. No one said a few years back that "Kurt Warner could be the league's MVP one day!" before the draft. Eric Crouch is getting the raw end of the hype.
A player the draft experts are overlooking is wideout Marquise Walker from the University of Michigan. While his physical skills cannot match those of some other recievers his skill and pure determination will soon find him in the first round.
Patrick Ramsey going to Green Bay? Interesting. I'm not ready -- just yet -- to say Brett Favre is long in the tooth, but it makes sense, especially when Ramsey can learn the ropes from a gutsy, flame-throwing Hall of Famer. Well, soon-to-be anyway. |
