Bears make contract offer to Stewart

Posted: Saturday March 08, 2003 12:12 PM

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) -- The Chicago Bears have made a contract offer to free-agent quarterback Kordell Stewart, and a deal could come together as early as Saturday.

"The Bears made a proposal, and we're stuyding it," agent Lee Steinberg told the Chicago Tribune late Friday night. "Kordell feels good about the situation in Chicago, and we'll see how it goes Saturday."

Stewart, the former Pittsburgh Steelers starter who lost his job last year to Tommy Maddox, was one of three quarterbacks to visit the Bears this week. The others were Jake Plummer and Jeff Blake.

The Bears were interested in Plummer, but he ended up signing with Denver the day after his visit.

Chicago has a quarterback vacancy after releasing veteran Jim Miller last week.
