Saints get Bouman for sixth-round pick

NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- Quarterback Todd Bouman was traded from the Minnesota Vikings to the New Orleans Saints on Thursday for a sixth-round draft pick.

The Saints have been looking for a backup to Aaron Brooks since Jake Delhomme agreed to a free-agent contract with the Carolina Panthers earlier this month.

Bouman, 6-foot-2, 229 pounds, is entering his sixth NFL season. He has started three games and played in six during his career, completing 54 of 95 passes for 880 yards and eight touchdowns, with four interceptions.

All of Bouman's starting experience came during the 2001 season, including when he earned NFC Offensive Player of the Week honors after a game against the Tennessee Titans in which he completed 21 of 31 passes for 384 yards and four touchdowns.

Last season, he appeared in only one game, completing three of six passes for 85 yards.

Bouman has been troubled off the field.

In Minnesota, the Mille Lacs County Sheriff's Office wants to question Bouman, and is seeking a sample of his DNA, in their investigation of an alleged sexual assault during a Vikings fund-raising event Feb. 2. The department has declined to say whether Bouman is a suspect in the case. Charges, if any, aren't expected for several more months.
