Packers don't expect Cleveland blackout to alter routine

CLEVELAND (AP) -- The blackout affecting the Northeast limited the menu and activities for Green Bay Packers spending Thursday night in a Cleveland hotel before a scheduled exhibition game with the Browns.

But team officials said the blackout affecting the city hadn't disrupted the pregame routine much.

"Some meetings might have to be shifted to the morning. We'll just have to wait and see when the power gets restored," said John Jones, the team's executive vice president and chief operating officer.

The team met with coach Mike Sherman before dinner.

Jones said Thursday night he had not talked to any NFL officials in New York and did not know if Friday night's game would be canceled.

The hotel where the Packers were staying had some auxiliary power. The lights were on in the lobby, but elevators weren't working and power was off in guest rooms.

Everyone with the team's traveling party went to the lobby for sandwiches and bottled water.

"Right now we're just kind of finding ways to entertain ourselves," Packers fullback William Henderson said. "We're a bunch of big kids, so it shouldn't be real difficult."

Jones said he and several others walked about two miles to Cleveland Browns Stadium, where there was no power and employees were leaving.

"The stoplights are out, there's not a lot of people around," Jones said. "Everybody's on cell phones calling relatives who have power and asking them what's being reported."
