He was clearly the best DS in this draft, but a serious knee injury at mid-season has really clouded his overall draft status. As a football player, he is a tremendous hitter that combines outstanding size, great instincts and good open field breakdown and tackling skills. He is a dominate player versus the run, shows the ability to close well on balls in front of him and he is definitely an upfield player. He has questionable cover skills and is not really a great m/m player as he is a little tight in the hips and his speed is somewhat straightline. He much better in zone situations, but he is basically an "old school" DS that will punish and intimidate receivers coming over the middle and he is a LB in a DS body. His injury, however, will really drop him in this draft. He will not be able to run or workout before the draft and as a result, the team that drafts him will really roll the dice and hope he will be ready by training camp. He is a hard worker with high character and while his doctors feel that he can return 100% from the injury, there are some doubts on NFL boards and he will be thoroughly evaluated between now and the draft. The team that drafts Poindexter will probably wait as long as they can and try to steal a tremendous player with a huge upside, if he can get healthy.
