Ellis says his days in Tennessee have prepared him for Jets fans. AP |
CNNSI Host: Welcome to today's chat with Shaun Ellis, No. 12 pick of the New York Jets. Thanks for joining us today.
Shaun Ellis: Thanks.
From Guest: Shaun, How do you feel playing for the most rabid fans in the NFL?
Shaun Ellis: *Laughs*
Where I came from, from Tennessee, I guess I've got to get used to it.
From Guest: Hello Guys, Shaun, how much of an impact will the speed change of the pro game have on you?
Shaun Ellis: It's going to have an impact. I've got to get used to it. Playing in the SEC really helped me prepare for the fast pace, because it's a fast paced conference.
From Guest: I must ask, how exciting is it for the Jets to get Chad Pennington with the most recent pick? How quickly do you think you can contribute to the J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets?
Shaun Ellis: I just want to go out there and do my part. Go out there and contribute. Show them I'm ready and willing to play... just do my job. The Pennington pick was a good move. He came to Tennessee and worked out a couple of times, and he's a hard worker.
From Guest: What are your initial reactions to being drafted by the Jets and their new coach Al Groh?
Shaun Ellis: My reaction was unexplainable. I just dropped down and prayed with my Mom. I shed some happy tears. You really don't know your time in the draft, so I just waited, being patient, and when they called my name, I was really excited.
From Guest: Where were you when you got the news? How did you find out that you'd been drafted by the Jets?
Shaun Ellis: Me and John [Abraham], our families got together in Columbia. We're watching the draft together at the same time. I saw it on TV. They called my agent first. They called my name on TV and called me right after they called my name.
From Guest: When will you go up to NYC?
Shaun Ellis: I don't know yet. They said they're going to get in contact with me about all that.
From Guest: Which NFL player did you grow up watching? Anyone in particular?
Shaun Ellis: I liked Walter Payton. I watched him growing up.
From Guest: What will it be like to playing the largest media market in the NFL?
Shaun Ellis: I really don't know. I think I've been prepared for it. I think I've grown, but I don't really know what to expect.
CNNSI Host: That's all the time we have today to chat with Shaun. Thanks for spending some time with us.
Shaun Ellis: Thanks.
