THE SCOOP Heartbreak. That was how the season ended for the Tennessee Titans. Forever etched in the minds of quarterback Steve McNair, running back Eddie George and defensive end Jevon Kearse -- and the rest of coach Jeff Fisher's underdog overacheivers -- will be the image of wideout Kevin Dyson stretching for the end zone. He came up one yard short, and the St. Louis Rams claimed the Lombardi Trophy with a 23-16 victory in Super Bowl XXXIX. The loss capped an amazing season for the Titans, who showed that they were the class of the AFC and a few seconds shy of taking their final game into overtime. The regular season winner went on to win the Super Bowl five of the previous nine times. The Titans beat the Rams, 24-21 at Tennessee on October 31. The last rematch occurred in 1994. After beating the San Diego Chargers, 38-15 in the regular season, the San Francisco 49ers rolled to a 49-26 rout in Super Bowl XXIX. ... The Rams will get $58,000 apiece, while the Titans receive $33,000 each. Back in 1967, the Green Bay Packers received $15,000 for winning Super Bowl I. ...
