Davis should 'be ready to go' on Saturday

ASHBURN, Va. (AP) -- The Stephen Davis Watch is nearly over.
The most pressing matter all week for the Washington Redskins -- as well as anyone who follows the team -- has been the status of Davis' sprained ankle ahead of Saturday's first-round playoff game against the Detroit Lions. It's been the lead subject of nearly every interview with coach Norv Turner or trainer Bubba Tyer.
And, of course, Davis has had to deal with it, too.
"You're going to ask me the same questions you asked me yesterday," Davis, who is very media shy, told a scrum of reporters one day this week.
For the record -- and, yes, it was the first question asked of Turner on Friday -- Davis "looked the best he's looked all week" during the midday walkthrough, according to the coach.
That doesn't mean much. The Redskins cut back on Friday's practice because they are playing Saturday instead of Sunday. Davis is listed as "probable" on the injury list and will start the game, even though he won't be 100 percent.
Whether he'll finish is another matter, but Turner tried to sound confident.
"Once the adrenaline gets going and he gets revved up, he'll be ready to go," Turner said.
Davis, the NFC's leading rusher, injured the ankle Dec. 19 at Indianapolis and hasn't played since. He resumed practicing Wednesday.
Hacking it up
Another starter who might not be full-strength is cornerback Darrell Green, who is recovering from bronchitis.
Green missed practice Wednesday and Thursday. He was back Friday, but was coughing on the field.
Sweet revenge
Kicker Brett Conway continued his campaign of revenge against teammates who drew on his face during the flight home from San Francisco two weeks ago.
Late Thursday, Conway hung a huge sign that read "I love big hairy men" on the back of right tackle Jon Jansen's truck. Conway then tailed Jansen and watched as people laughed. Finally, a pedestrian walked up to Jansen and told him about the sign.
Earlier Thursday, Conway got even with tight end Mike Sellers by placing a huge rat and four mice in Sellers' locker.
"Two down, one to go," said Conway, who is now working on a surprise for center Cory Raymer.
