Hillary Clinton U.S. Senator Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) has put a friendly wager on the Giants. AP

BALTIMORE (AP) -- This Super Bowl bet could make some fans root for the other side.

If the Baltimore Ravens win, New York Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Charles Schumer will read Edgar Allan Poe's "The Raven" on the steps of the U.S. Capitol.

If the New York Giants win, Maryland Sens. Barbara Mikulski and Paul Sarbanes will perform "New York, New York" on the Capitol steps.

However, the four senators all have an out.

Clinton and Schumer offered an alternative wager, pitting Junior's cheesecakes and Zabar's bagels and lox against native Maryland delicacies "if the Maryland senators lacked the faith in their team to risk a public performance."

But in his reply Monday, Sarbanes displayed confidence that his team would prevail.

"Since the Ravens are going to run roughshod over the Giants, I would encourage my New York colleagues to begin practicing their recitation skills," Sarbanes said.

"However, under the very unlikely event that we could lose, my preference would be for Senators Schumer and Clinton to enjoy the first-class quality of the Chesapeake Bay blue crab -- one of the great treats of life."
