Positives: "Nice sized cornerback who has displayed a lot of ability the past two seasons. Quick flipping his hips transitioning off the line, will battle throughout the action, and plays a physical brand of football. Shows a burst of speed, effectively follows receivers across the field, and works hard to defend passes. Is a willing run defender also effective on the blitz, and shows a burst of closing speed. Displays good recognition of routes in zone coverage."

Negatives: Lacks a smooth and quick backpedal. Slow to react at times and loses a half step to opponents off the snap. Lacks great quickness.

Analysis: Rutland was a solid college cornerback and projects well as a dime back in a zone system at the next level.
