PLAYERS
Biography: Four-year starter used at both cornerback and safety for UNLV. Senior totals included 59 tackles/2 interceptions/3 pass breakups
after he had 72 tackles and four pass defenses as a junior in 2009. Missed the 2010 season with a knee injury.
Positives: Athletic cornerback with solid size/speed numbers. Aggressive, fires up the field to defend running plays or screens passes and wraps up when tackling. Remains disciplined with assignments, works well with cornerbacks and displays good awareness. Has solid range and covers a lot of area on the field at safety, Gets outside the numbers to make plays. Recognizes coverage assignments, quickly locates the pass in the air and has a burst to the ball. Negatives: Overpursues the action and occasionally takes himself from the play. Average man-to-man coverage skills. A bit undeveloped in his ball skills. Analysis: Pointer is a solid prospect who can line up at several positions in the defensive backfield during nickel or dime packages at the next level. He comes with a special teams mentality, which increases his value. Projection: FA |
