PLAYERS
Biography: Started 14 games last season at both left and right guard and was awarded all-conference honors. Sat on the sidelines in 2010
with a broken leg. Backup offensive lineman his first two years on the field at LSU.
Positives: Hardworking, small-area blocker who watched his game take off last season. Stays square, keeps defenders in front of him and is strong at the point of attack. Quickly gets into blocks, plays with a nasty attitude and works well with teammates. Better than average skills blocking in motion with the ability to redirect to linebackers then hit a moving target. Negatives: Lacks blocking balance, does not display top footwork in pass protection and lunges into opponents. Does too much grabbing and clutching at times. Gets tall in his blocking. Analysis: Blackwell is a hardworking and ferocious offensive linemen but a limited athlete with marginal upside. He offers potential as an inexpensive backup who can line up at both guard positions. Projection: FA |
