PLAYERS
Biography: Former backup quarterback who moved to safety as a sophomore and started the next three seasons. All-conference selection
as a senior after making 69 tackles and breaking up three passes. Junior numbers included 86 tackles/2 interceptions/1 pass
breakup.
Positives: Adequately sized safety who is best defending the run. Effectively reads the action, takes good angles to plays and works well with cornerbacks. Displays timing in pass defense and picks up assignments over the middle of the field. Negatives: Lacks a quick backpedal and loses transitioning to run with opponents down the field. Struggles staying with receivers out of their breaks. Lacks quick and fluid change-of-direction ability and cannot go sideline to sideline. Not a strong tackler. Analysis: Hartman plays smart, tough football but has marginal upside for the next level. He could find a home in a zone defense if he plays well on special teams. Projection: FA |
