Biography: Three-year starter awarded All-conference honors as a senior after leading Alabama in receiving with 56 receptions/627 yards/1 touchdown. Also averaged 12.4 yards on 31 punt returns, bringing one back for a score, and averaged 28.5 yards on 12 kick returns. Positives: Small, but quick receiver who plays productive football. Quickly releases off the line, displays sharpness into breaks and stays low on exit. Displays soft and strong hands, has good eye/hand coordination and effectively extends to make the reception away from his frame. Stays with the action, finds the clearing in the defense and works hard to come free. Nicely makes the reception in stride and shows skill running after the catch. Gives effort blocking.
Negatives: Undersized and loses out in battles. Does not always come away with the difficult reception. More quick than fast and doesn?t stretch the field.
Analysis: Maze is a slippery receiver with the ability to positively impact a franchise in a variety of ways. He'll offer potential as a slot receiver and could be a dangerous punt returner. Limited by size and poor top-end speed, Maze is a solid last-day choice who should see significant action as a rookie.
