Biography: Three-year starter awarded all-conference honors the past two seasons. Led San Diego State in all tackling categories as a senior, posting 78 tackles/19.5 tackles for loss/8 sacks. Junior totals included 80/20/9.5. Initially led San Diego State in tackles as a sophomore with 58.
Positives: Relatively athletic linebacker with potential in a variety of schemes. Plays with a fearless attitude, sells out and works hard to make plays. Attacks ballcarriers, stays with assignments and is very aggressive in his overall game. Explosive at the point, fast up the field and can bend off the edge on the blitz. Loses little momentum changing direction and scrapes well laterally. Displays a good head for the ball, effectively diagnosing the action and locating the ballcarrier. Protects himself and rarely off his feet. Gets adequate depth on pass drops when used in coverage.
Negatives: Primarily lined up on the line of scrimmage and sent up the field. Adequate speed in pursuit yet nothing outstanding.
Analysis: Burris was very productive on the college level and can be used in either a 3-4 or conventional alignment. He's athletic, tough and smart and one of the more underrated linebackers in April's draft.
