Biography: WAC Offensive Player of the Year in 2011 with rushing totals of 249 tenths/1517 yards/19 TDs and receiving numbers of 17 receptions/171 yards/4 TDs. Missed the 2010 season with a knee injury. Started 12 games in 2009, posting 207/1296/13 on the ground and adding 30/418/5 as a receiver.
Positives: Large, powerful downhill runner who picks up a lot of yardage off initial contact. Displays adequate vision, finds the running lanes and shows a burst through the hole. Pounds defenders on the inside, dishing out punishment and breaking tackles. Falls forward when tackled. Rarely brought down by the first defender. Works runs hard, uses an effective straight arm and plays until the whistle blows. Recognizes blitzes thrown by the defense and picks up blocking assignments.
Negatives: Straight line runner who loses momentum changing direction. Lacks the speed to beat defenders around the corner or in the open field. Not a natural receiver out of the backfield. At times does too much East/West running. Seems to struggle with his instincts at times.
Analysis: Turbin is a terrific story as a person who overcame much to become a tremendous college running back. He's a big-bodied ballcarrier who would do well in a power running system yet is a bit one-dimensional in his game.
