Biography: Three-year starter awarded all-conference honors as a senior with totals of 81 tackles/3 interceptions/2 pass breakups. Junior numbers included 70/1/4. Played the Spur position for South Carolina, a hybrid outside linebacker/safety position.
Positives: Aggressive safety with a forceful game. Displays a good head for the ball, effectively diagnoses the action and plays with suddenness. Breaks down well, effectively uses his hands to protect himself and flows well to the action. Fast out to the flanks, shows a burst in a straight line and moves well in every direction of the field. Effective on the blitz, consistently defeats blocks and is a solid open-field tackler. Jams receivers at the line of scrimmage, slowing their release off the snap, locates the pass in the air and plays heads-up football. Crashes down the line of scrimmage giving effort to defend screen passes and the run.
Negatives: Displays a marginal break to the ball out of his plant. Possesses just average recovery speed.
Analysis: Allen is a productive defensive back who shows skill in all areas and has a lot of upside. He may need time adjusting to a pure safety position, but has all the skills necessary to eventually develop into a starter at the next level.
