Biography: Started three games at linebacker last season, totaling 23 tackles and breaking up one pass. Full-time starter as a junior, posting a career-high 64 tackles and breaking up two throws.
Positives: Nice-sized defensive back with an incomplete game. Fights hard to get off blocks, stays on his feet and displays a good head for the ball. Flows well to the play, quickly locates the action and recognizes pass routes in zone coverage. Takes good angles to the play, is aggressive and chases hard to defend the run. Remains disciplined with assignments and is a solid open-field tackler.
Negatives: Marginally productive in college. Minimal ball skills. Never truly developed at the safety position.
Analysis: Hatcher displays a lot of toughness and is an effective run defender in the box. He possesses the size and skill necessary to be a strong safety at the next level, but must improve his play when the ball is in the air.
