Biography: All-American and all-conference selection last season after posting 53 tackles, 2 interceptions, and 4 pass breakups. Started his career at Florida playing with the first team as a sophomore and junior. All-conference selection in 2010, totaling 44/3/8 after he had 38/2/6 as a sophomore in 2009. Positives: Talented cover cornerback with the ability to shut down opponents. Fluid moving in reverse, quickly flips his hips off the line and loses nothing transitioning to run with opponents. Agile, quickly changes direction and is fast moving in every direction of the field. Stays with receivers out of breaks and has an explosive burst to the ball from his plant. Shows terrific quickness and explosiveness in his game, displays a sense of timing in pass defense and quickly locates the ball in the air. Battles hard to make plays and tough defending the run. Stays with assignments and for the most part does not make mental mistakes on the field.
Negatives: Tends to side shuffle down the field and needs to improve the consistency of his backpedal. Shows hesitation in his game on occasion. Off-the-field incidents have raised several red flags.
Analysis: Jenkins? skills on the field compare favorably with most of the top cornerbacks in this draft, as he's a prospect with starting potential for the next level. His off-the-field issues are another matter altogether and have scared away several teams. If he focuses on football and is able to minimize off-the-field distractions, Jenkins can be a productive NFL starter. Otherwise, he may turn into a player who never lives up to expectations.
