Biography: All-conference selection last season with rushing totals of 230 attempts/1121 yards/17 TDs. Spent three seasons at Iowa before transferring to Southern Illinois. Missed the 2009 season and all but two games of 2010 with knee injuries.
Positives: Explosive back who picks up big chunks of yardage from the line of scrimmage. Patient, waits for blocks develop and will pick and choose his spots on the inside. Runs low to the ground, very quick and has a great burst of speed. Displays outstanding running vision, follows blocks everywhere on the field and gets through the small holes of the defense. Works runs, puts his shoulders into defenders and tries to pick up as much yardage as possible. Possesses the speed and agility necessary to turn the corner and beat defenders into the open field.
Negatives: Not a back who picks up a lot yardage off initial contact. Has a long injury history, which will undoubtedly raise red flags.
Analysis: When healthy and at the top of his game, Hampton is a complete running back who offers next-level skill. Likely to be selected in the late rounds, Hampton will surprise in the NFL if he's able to stay on the field.
