Biography: Started just two games as a senior, posting 11 receptions/125 yards/1 TD. Junior totals included a career-high 41 receptions for 441 receiving yards and one score. Sophomore numbers included 33/460/1.
Positives: One-time highly rated receiver coming off a disappointing senior campaign. Physical and battles opponents to get off the line of scrimmage. Displays sharpness into routes and stays low on exit. Comes back to the ball out of breaks, displays good eye/hand coordination and flashes strong hands with the ability to pull the ball from the air. Works hard to make himself an available target and almost always comes away with the difficult reception. Gives effort blocking and gets results.
Negatives: Lazily comes off the line on occasion. Does not show burst of speed and is not a downfield threat. Play on the field took a step backwards in 2011.
Analysis: Coming into the season Byrd was justifiably rated as a potential top 100 choice, but his stock has fallen due to his 2011 results. At the top of his game he's a strong possession wideout who consistently makes tough catches. He possesses the underlying ability to be a fourth receiver at the next level but must quickly produce in camp this summer to make a final roster.
