PLAYERS
Biography: Two-year starter awarded All-American and all-conference honors last season with defensive totals of 51 tackles/6 interceptions/6
pass breakups. Also averaged 26.1 yards on 17 kick returns with one score. 2011 Thorpe Award recipient. Sophomore totals included
37/5/6.
Positives: Athletically gifted cornerback prospect with big upside. Physical, battles hard and does not back down to a challenge. Engages receivers at the line of scrimmage, quick flipping his hips in transition and displays a burst of closing and recovery speed. Locates the pass in the air, displays a nice move to the ball and stays with assignments. Works well with safeties over the middle of the field. Aggressive against the run and works hard to make plays up the field. Negatives: Must improve his backpedal, as he's slow and reaches moving in reverse. Does not always play under control, which leads to receptions for the opposition. Analysis: Claiborne is a talented cornerback with solid size and athleticism. He offers the skills necessary to be a No. 1 at the next level, and his ability as a return man gives him additional value. Claiborne will be an early draft pick and a quick starter in the NFL. Projection: 1st ![]() John Biever
