A Decade of Drafting

Manning a lock for No. 1 Peter King

Peter King, Sports Illustrated senior writer, covering his 15th NFL Draft, checks in with his observations of the 1998 version. He'll be checking in every hour through the day...

PHOENIX (CNN/SI) -- Here are five things I think I think in the hours before the draft.

1.) I think that Peyton Manning is absolutely solid to the Colts at No. 1 -- I don't think; actually; I know -- with Ryan Leaf a lock to San Diego at No. 2

2.) I think the Cardinals are on the clock. And they'll have severe brainlock if they do anything but pick Andre Wadsworth.

3.) I think it's true - the Raiders are trying to move into New Orleans' slot at No. 7 by dangling four or five draft picks. But the Raiders also want to keep their fourth pick in the first round to take Charles Woodson. If they do get the seventh pick, they're very interested in Randy Moss.

4.) I think it must have been pretty awkward last night at "21," the New York restaurant, when the Chargers were dining with Ryan Leaf and the Peyton Manning throng walked in for dinner.

5.) I think this is the most predictable top of the draft that I've ever covered. But something will happen in the first two hours to surprise us all. It always does.
