The War Room takes a
look at the Dallas
Cowboys' 1998 draft picks. Greg Ellis
1st round, 8th overall Defensive end, North
Carolina Comments: Cowboys better hope he is ready to play,
as he was somewhat inconsistent as senior. Needs to have immediate impact
on defensive line. Good pass rush guy, but doesn't always show burst off
the corner. Flozell
Adams 2nd round, 38th overall Tackle, Michigan
State Comments: Solid tackle who dropped some in the draft.
Ear problem may force him to play on right side of line only. Will backup
up right tackle Erik Williams.
Could play right guard if free agent McIVer struggles like last season.
Michael
Myers 4th round, 100th overall Defensive tackle,
Alabama Comments: Has the potential to dominate, but missed
most of last season with suspension, and may be a little rusty. Will back
up at either tackle spot. Has some time to develop ... good value here.
Darren
Hambrick 5th round, 130th overall Outside
Linebacker, South Carolina Comments: Didn’t have much of a
senior year after an early leg injury ... great athletic ability and
excellent in space...can run and chase but somewhat undersized ... needs to
add some bulk, but can contribute on special teams and in nickel
package. Oliver
Ross 5th round, 138th overall Tackle, Iowa State
Comments: Former defensive tackle that had only one year in
college at tackle ... he is a big physical guy that will need development
in all areas and could be headed to the practice squad ... developmental
type. Izell
Reese 6th round, 188th overall Safety,
Alabama-Birmingham Comments: Pretty good athlete that may
be quality backup at safety ... enough size to be hitter and enough
athletic ability to help in coverage ... should also be effective on
special teams ... may have athletic ability to develop in the nickel
role. Tarik
Smith 7th round, 223th overall Tailback,
California Comments: Decent college player that will have a
tough time cracking Cowboy lineup...adequate productivity that lacks
breakaway speed...not an asset in return game, probably headed for practice
squad and training camp “fodder.” Antonio Fleming 7th
round, 227th overall Guard, Georgia Comments:
Not a great college career but enough athletic ability and speed to take a
chance ... has shot at all three offensive line positions and could be used
in some short yardage sets ... strictly developmental guy with marginal
production. Rod
Monroe 7th round, 237th overall Tight end,
Cincinnati Comments: Excellent basketball background for
Bearcats with only one season of football ... developmental type with some
athletic ability, but has a long way to go ... practice squad?
