Jason Peter

1st round, 14th overall
Defensive tackle, Nebraska
Comments: Played tackle in 4-3 defense at Nebraska, but will be likely opening-day starter at nose tackle. No candidates to start on roster right now. Tough guy ... should be impact defender.

Chuck Wiley

3rd round, 62nd overall
Defensive end, Louisiana State
Comments: Former college defensive tackle will play end in 3-4 defense. Better run stuffer than pass-rush guy, so he will be good fit … Will compete for starting end spot opposite of free-agent acquisition Sean Gilbert.

Mitch Marrow

3rd round, 73rd overall
Defensive end, Penn
Comments: Was a workout warrior at NFL combine and in postseason workouts. May need time to develop -- as small-school defensive tackle, has never seen this level of competion in the trenches.

Donald Hayes

4th round, 106th overall
Receiver, Wisconsin
Comments: Has excellent size and speed. However, like a lot of the receivers on this roster, his hands are a question mark at times. Will compete with Muhsin Muhammad for duties as No. 3 receiver.

Jerry Jensen

5th round, 136th overall
Linebacker, Washington
Comments: Not a household name but a popular middle-round pick by a lot of teams ... doesn't have great measurables and isn't a very exciting athlete, but he is a guy that makes plays all over the field ... great instincts and production and simply plays much better than the numbers indicate ... he also has excellent long-snapping ability, which gives him added value ... could be backup inside linebacker and long-snapper and a real contributor as a rookie.

Damien Richardson

6th round, 165th overall
Safety, Arizona State
Comments: More of a run defender than pass-cover guy ... does not have great speed and did not flash athletic ability in workouts. However, he has good overall production and adds size and a physicality to Panther secondary ... there is concern for his man-to-man weaknesses.

Viliami Maumau

7th round, 196th overall
Defensive tackle, Colorado
Comments: He was the 4th defensive lineman drafted by the Panthers, but they obviously saw value. He is a strong and powerful two-gap defensive tackle type that will move the pile, but doesn't have much one-gap quickness or explosion ... one-dimensional guy that could fit in as backup run defender.

Jim Turner

7th round, 228th overall
Receiver, Syracuse
Comments: Great size and speed guy with marginal production on college level ... worth the gamble in 7th round ... could stick as special-teams contributor and possible kickoff return guy ... will not make this roster as receiver only.
