Marcus
Nash 1st round, 30th overall Receiver, Tennessee
Comments: A little bit of a reach in the first round. Had a
fairly productive college career, and should help out as No. 3 receiver.
He's quicker than fast, and got pulled down from behind way to often at the
college level ... must improve overall consistency. Eric Brown
2nd round, 61th overall Safety, Mississippi State
Comments: Fills a strong need for aging Bronco secondary
... in the Steve Atwater
mold, as a big-hitter type safety that almost plays like a linebacker ...
should be excellent vs. the run and as an occasional blitzer, but is not
known for cover skills, although athletic ability and speed are good ...
Broncos will work hard to develop him as adequate man-to-man cover guy on
tight ends ... good young physical body to add to this group. Brian
Griese 3rd round, 91st overall Quarterback,
Michigan Comments: Smart quarterback who will be good fit
in this system because of the solid ground attack led by Terrell Davis. Will compete
with Jeff Lewis to be the
heir apparent to John
Elway. Curtis
Alexander 4th round, 122nd overall Running back,
Alabama Comments: Broncos liked his speed and open-field
abilities, but he will have a big challenge to make this roster initially
... if he has a good camp, he could develop into backup running back who
gives the team an outside run threat ... has some injury problems in his
past but was fine during his senior year. Chris
Howard 5th round, 153rd overall Running back,
Michigan Comments: Unusual pick, as position on Bronco
roster appears to be crowded ... good receiver out of backfield and very
efficient runner but not a breakaway guy ... will compete with Alexander
for backup tailback role and could possibly figure in nickel offense and on
special teams. Trey
Teague 7th round, 200th overall Tackle, Tennessee
Comments: Although Teague has played center his last 1 1/2
years in college, he has some history at tackle and the Broncos will take a
long look at him as a backup right tackle. He has good versatility and
intelligence and enough athletic ability to project outside. The Broncos
have marginal depth at tackle and Teague has an excellent chance to stick
as a backup and developmental guy. Nate Wayne 7th round,
219th overall Linebacker, Mississippi Comments:
Not a very big middle linebacker but more productive than his size would
indicate. He is a guy with a lot of range and he plays a little bigger than
looks ... covers a lot of ground and is a tough and relentless type that
may be overwhelmed at the point of attack on the NFL level ... may have to
project to outside linebacker because of size, but with Denvers lack of
depth at linebacker, he has a legitimate chance to stick, if he can also
help on special teams.
