| Summary
Shaw was a fairly highly touted player going into the 1997 season and teamed with OT Flozell Adams and formed a fairly dynamic duo. However, as good a football player as he is, he has some legitimate limitations in the AA area, although he had a solid senior year. He is a two year starter at LOG and has been very productive for the Spartans. He is a classic short area mauler with limited movement. He had a BP of 38 at the combine while posting a miserable 5.14 in the SS, which tells you everything you need to know. This is a big and powerful guy that is very effective when he can lock on in a short area. He will win most inside "fist fights" and he has success by being aggressive and competitive and overwhelming the defender. He does a nice job of finishing his blocks and he absolutely plays to the whistle on every down, however, he has limited movement and quickness and looks like a stiff player. He is really exposed when he has to perform in space and he lacks range in his pass pro. If he does not lock on initially, he has some problems. As strong as he is, he does not have a real pretty body, but he is just a big massive guy. There are guys like Shaw playing in the NFL at OG, especially in the day of a lot of even def. fronts, where he is facing a DT with similar attributes, however, his athletic limitations will scare a lot of teams, and unless he gets in the right situation, it could be tough for him to stick on an NFL roster.
