Summary

Outstanding athletic background. Was good enough to play on San Diego State basketball team for a short time and was outstanding high school basketball player. Has played some DE in career, but three year starter at OT for Aztecs. Had marginal senior year and got off to horrible start after being sidelined early in season by academics. Never really recovered and has been labeled an “under achiever” by many. He recovered somewhat in the Senior Bowl and played closer to his capabilities. He is an outstanding looking prospect with excellent size and movement, and certainly looks the part. He is very graceful and talented, but has not lived up to his expectations. He is not a power player, but is more of a finesse and position type. He has the ability to be outstanding in pass pro and can mirror and slide with anybody. He is adequate in the run game because of his feet and AA, but does not overpower at the POA. However, he is a soft player too much of the time. He is one of the biggest "teasers" in this draft. He is a very intelligent young man that has never worked up to his ability in both the class room and the football field. Whichever NFL team drafts him will gamble on which player they are getting...will it be the under achiever that doesn't play with intensity or pride, or will it be the talented guy that just needed to get in the right environment? If the light goes on, Salaam could be a special player in this draft and a steal for the team that gets him.
