Going into the 1972 season, Mercury Morris was mainly a special-teams player. But once coach Don Shula gave him a chance to start, Morris responded by gaining 1,000 yards on 190 carries (5.3 yards per carry) and scoring a then-club-record 12 rushing touchdowns.
