Redskins release T Andy Heck
Posted: Fri February 23, 2001 at 12:16 p.m. EST ASHBURN, Virginia (Ticker) -- The Washington Redskins continued their housecleaning on Friday by releasing veteran tackle Andy Heck.The 34-year-old Heck was the Redskins' starting left tackle in 1999 but lost the job to rookie Chris Samuels last season. Heck has played 12 NFL seasons for the Seattle Seahawks, Chicago Bears and Redskins. Under new coach Marty Schottenheimer, the Redskins have let go six players this week that will save the club about $6 million against the salary cap. The Redskins already have released guards Tre Johnson and Keith Sims, wide receiver Irving Fryar and tackles Derek G. Smith and Kareem Ellis. The release of Heck will save the Redskins about $833,000.
